Women's Leadership in Natural Resources management and governance
Increased transparency and promote women leadership in natural resources management and governance.
LIFE work with rural communities living adjacent or within areas that have natural resources such as timber and other forest and non-forest products and ensure that they actively participate in management of these. Women will be primarily targeted and supported to understand natural resource management and governance. LIFE will invest in women leadership training as a way of preparing them for leadership roles in both the timber and other extractive sectors. Liberia is endowed with natural resources but these have fueled increased inequality through management and beneficiation which excludes majority of them. A clear example is in the timber or forestry sector where women’s involvement is mostly on the periphery and less profitable ventures like charcoal processing.
Through this capacity building of women leaders, LIFE believes that women will be able to meaningfully participate and take leadership for transformation in natural resources governance.
